While still not officially announced by either Disney or Lucasfilm, the Disney+ series The Acolyte has apparently been canceled after one season. The series, which served as a spin-off of the popular Star Wars franchise, has become one of the lowest-rated television series in series history.
In a report that was initially broken from Deadline an insider reported that Disney would not renew the series for a second season following the season one finale a month prior. Since then many online have commented on the situation, both those upset at the cancelation and those glad to see it shut down.
Now, one of the people who was involved in this series. Former Squid Game actor Lee Jung-jae portrayed Jedi Master Sol, one of the Jedi who sought to free the twins Osha and Mae from the witch’s coven. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lee shared his reaction and thoughts on the abrupt end to the series.
“To hear the news, I was quite surprised personally as well. As you know, my character had died already in the first season. So I wouldn’t have appeared in the second season if there was one anyway.“
“But personally speaking, I really loved Leslye’s writing. I thought that she was a great writer and director who was very talented in the storytelling, as well as creating characters and creating meaningful structures within the story. So I was actually personally really looking forward to watching a season 2 with her at the helm.“
While Lee definitely has no ill feelings toward the series, his contributions to it were already finished (unless there were plans for more flashback sequences). Nevertheless, while an actor can speak well about a show, the executives care about the numbers at the end of the day.
As of now, The Acolyte will not continue past the first season and may be written off like the Willow series.
