Previously, it was reported that Disney was working on a ‘Hocus Pocus 3’ and Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy wanted to come back again. Now it appears the film is officially moving to early production.
But does anyone actually care after the disappointing ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ film?
The last film didn’t include Max, Allison, or Dani and instead opted for new “witch girls”. Then, at the end, the Sanderson Sisters crossed over and were completely gone. Now they are going to be resurrected again? But why?
Money. Money is why. Disney plans on releasing this film theatrically instead of going the direct-to-Disney+ route as they did with “Hocus Pocus 2.”
Fans did not care for the sequel
Disney made some very questionable choices with the last film, which led to a 47% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. ‘Hocus Pocus’ from 1993 is a cult classic that sits at a 72% Audience Score.
It just did not resonate with fans the way the original did. Instead of being pure evil, the Sanderson Sisters came across as just misunderstood and relatable villains.
How did they come back at all? They were vanquished at the end of the first film with no prophecy for a return.
The people behind the film chose not to bring back the original kids and instead focus on a “new story”, but then spent much of their time reusing jokes, situations, and plot points from the first film. Why not just bring back Dani, Max, and Allison then?
Why were Sarah, Winifred, and Mary spending so much time in a Walgreens?
How far into development is ‘Hocus Pocus 3’?
According to Deadline, the film is still very early into production after the salaries were worked out for Midler, Parker, and Najimy.
Previously, Midler claimed there was a script. It’s unclear if that is still the case.
We have no other information, including possible plot points, casting outside of the three women, or a release date.
What do you think? Is this a good idea?
