Spider-Noir Set Photos Show Nic Cage as Spider-Man!

We’ve all been eagerly awaiting the first look at Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man for some time. We got a taste of his portrayal as Spider-Noir via Sony’s amazing 2018 Into the Spider-Verse. Now we have the real thing!

X user @CanWeGetSomeToast posted two shots of Nicolas Cage as the alternate universe Spider-Man, thanks to @JustJared.

While the on-set photos don’t show Cage in the full Spider-Noir getup, we do see the trademark black trenchcoat.

It’s unclear if Cage will go full-Spidey in the show since it picks up after Peter Parker’s prime as New York’s web-slinging superhero. What we do know is that at least one recognizable supporting character will pop up, Robbie Robertson (Lamorne Morris).

During the same month Spider-Noir was set to start shooting (August), it was rumored that the production was suffering from budget issues. Since then, things have been pretty quiet. Thankfully, Cage’s 1930s Spider-Man show didn’t suffer the same fate as Silk: Spider Society.

If the talk of budget problems is true, we may end up seeing a lot more down-to-earth villains on screen. Hammerhead, Shocker, Kingpin, and Mysterio will most likely be in Noir‘s rogues gallery.

Don’t expect the mutated Green Goblin from the comics or Vulture to be here; as much of a bummer as that idea is. However, maybe Lord and Miller were able to convince Amazon MGM to inject more money into the budget to cover the necessary CGI and creature effects.

Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot will be Spider-Noir’s showrunners, while Christopher Miller and Phil Lord will act as executive producers. The series is still listed as an MGM+ exclusive, but there’s still a long way to go before the first episode premieres.

If that streaming service vanishes, Spider-Noir will probably become an Amazon Video exclusive. We’ll keep an eye on it.
