Spider-Man Swings Back to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade After Long Absence!

It’s October already?! Before you know it, Thanksgiving will be here! OK, that’s not so bad because we learned that a classic superhero will swing back into Macy’s annual parade! Yes, Spider-Man has returned!

Peter Parker’s heroic alter-ego has been absent from the annual procession for ten years. Odd, considering Spider-Man (and several other MARVEL characters) is synonymous with New York City.

While Macy’s official site for the Thanksgiving Day Parade is keeping things under wraps, MARVEL made the holiday announcement, including a picture of the Spider-Man balloon!

The producer of Macy’s annual Thanksgiving parade, Jordan Dabby, had the following to say about the web swinger’s reappearance:

Fans will be delighted to see Spider-Man swinging back into the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome everyone’s favorite web-slinger to this year’s spectacular balloon lineup. Just like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Spider-Man is a true New York City icon. I can’t wait for live spectators and viewers across the country to erupt in excitement as Spidey soars high above the streets of the Big Apple on Thanksgiving morning.

The design for the Spider-Man balloon is based on the art of John Romita Sr. It’s undeniable that Romita gave Spider-Man his definitive look that helped etch the webhead into American pop culture. Who could deny that specific red and blue look isn’t legendary?

Parker first appeared as a large-scale inflatable in 1987 and appeared often until 2014. The MARVEL float from 1989 was something to behold:

Let’s hope the winds don’t cause Spidey any stress on Thanksgiving day. The previous Spidey balloon hit a tree in 2013 (see below). At least it wasn’t as bad as the 1997 Barney Incident.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will start on the morning of November 28. Check back with us then for a list of all the places you can stream the event from!
