Anakin Hayden Christensen and Obi-Wan Ewan McGregor

Disney’s Next Big Star Wars Project Should Feature Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor

Disney has hit a wall regarding Lucasfilm and Star Wars projects. Numerous films were announced but never materialized. We are still set to get “The Mandalorian and Grogu” film, but the last we heard, a script wasn’t even completed for the Rey film rumored at one point to be called “Heir to the Empire.” Disney+ has lower viewership with each “Star Wars” show they put out. “The Acolyte” was a complete dud, and a second season was canceled.

Maybe now it’s time to go back to formula and bring back fan-favorite characters / actors to headline a “Star Wars” show or film.

Enter Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor.

Christensen and McGregor famously portrayed Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi in both the Prequel Trilogy and the Disney+ “Obi-Wan Kenobi” show (that likely would have done very well if it had been about little Luke Skywalker and not little Leia Organa.)

Let’s be honest: Most people tuned into “Obi-Wan Kenobi” to see the two actors return as their beloved characters.

Both actors have made it very clear that they would love to return to a galaxy far, far away, and many fans want them to return together.

Earlier this year McGregor told LADbible,

“I hope we get a chance to do another one and I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know, I’ve got a few years yet before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there’s time to tell more stories in there.”

Recently he also told Variety,

“I really do hope we get a chance to do another one. Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”

Meanwhile Hayden Christensen has also made his own comments about returning to the franchise with McGregor, telling Variety,

“If it means that I got to do more with Ewan, then that’s a no-brainer, but I really hope that he continues with the character.”

Fans believe it is likely that Christensen will be in “Ahsoka” Season 2, so while we may have him back it would be fantastic to get Ewan back as well. There are so many projects that Disney could do with the pair. I think that is where they should head with a new Disney+ series or film.

Initially it seemed that Disney / Lucasfilm wanted to move away from the core timelines with “The Acolyte” it did not move the audience with it. Fans seem to want to watch characters they know or characters that feel close to what they know. Put Anakin or Vader with Obi-Wan in adventures during the Clone Wars or move them into a post prequel-pre original trilogy show or film where Vader is pursing his old master.

Right now Disney needs to play it safe and bringing these two back is a strong way to do that.  Maybe the toys won’t end up on clearance and then at Ollies.

But that is the opinion of this long time “Star Wars” fan.

Oh and a side note. Calling the next Rey film “Heir to the Empire” is a terrible idea that would be insulting to the fans of the books.
