We Almost Got a Star Wars Jabba The Hutt Film From Guillermo Del Toro

“Star Wars” has been an iconic brand for decades, and many in Hollywood have wanted to work on a project for the IP. Now it seems we almost got a Jabba the Hutt film from director Guillermo del Toro.

Del Toro was working on the project with screenwriter David S. Goyer. Recently Goyer had hinted at their involvement on a Star Wars project during a podcast. And now we have learned more as Guillermo Del Toro has offered some comments about it during an interview with Collider reporter Steven Weintraub.

Weintraub was interviewing the director at the 10th Anniversary screening of “Pacific Rim.”

Here’s what Del Toro said:

We had the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt, so I was super happy. We were doing a lot of stuff, and then it’s not my property, it’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 screenplays that goes away. Sometimes I’m bitter. Sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, ‘Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world. We designed great stuff. We learned.’”

I would have loved to see what Del Toro and his team would have done with Jabba the Hutt. I respect his attitude of learning from the experience to do better later.

He continued about not being ungrateful for opportunities:

You can never be ungrateful with life. Whatever life sends you, there’s something to be learned from it. So, you know, I trust the universe, I do. When something doesn’t happen, I go, ‘Why?’ I try to have a dialogue with myself. ‘Why didn’t it happen?’ And the more you swim upstream with the universe, the less you’re gonna realize where you’re going.

Somewhere at Lucasfilm, there is a “Star Wars” script and world that Del Toro did. I would love to see that!

But let’s be honest. Even if Kathleen Kennedy had announced the film, it would have likely ended up canceled like most of them do.

What to you think? Comment and let us know!
