There are a few rumors about Walt Disney that continually circulate. The first one is that his head is frozen, and the second one is that he was antisemitic. Neither is true, but now a video seemingly shows the “Hey Disney” service at Disney Resort Hotels using Alexa to tell a guest that Walt was indeed antisemitic.
In a video making rounds on social media, a guest asks the Hey Disney box a question. He says, “Hey Disney! Was Walt Disney antisemitic?”
At this point, the service says it will get Alexa to answer that question, and Alexa comes back with this response:
“According to an Alexa Answers contributor. Yes, Walt Disney was antisemitic, and examples of this can be seen in his early movies.”
This has not gone over well on X.

As Joshua L Harris points out, this has been disproven many times.

Walt Disney actually made many cartoons during World War II against the Nazi regime.
Disney got a Naval Contract for 20 training films for our troops during the war. One example can be seen here. “The New Spirit,” 1942.
Before WWII, Disney was a volunteer driver for the Red Cross Ambulance Corps during WWI. He was reportedly hesitant to do the videos initially as he wanted to remain a non-political artist for fear of being viewed as a propagandist. He did decide to help, and I’m sure the $90k Navy contract helped.
During this time, Walt’s team also designed over 1,200 insignias and designs using his characters for military units, including the Flying Tigers, Women’s Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs), and more. He and his artists did this for free.

Disney also helped with fundraising, allowing the government to use their characters for things such as war bonds.
If accusations are made due to how characters were depicted in media, this is a true “product of its time” case. During WWII various ethnic groups were depicted as caricatures of themselves. Not only by Disney but most artists of the time. Today we see this as being culturally or racially insensitive, but then it was the norm and not thought of as being -istaphobic.
I have to wonder how long it will be till Disney asks Alexa to kindly change their answer based on an Alexa Answers contributor’s input.
If you want your own Hey Disney device you can purchase it on Amazon.
