Lara Spencer, knows for her work on Good Morning America (GMA) and the original trash-to-treasure show “Flea Market Flip,” will be hosting a new show for Disney. Spencer’s new show will be similar to her flip show and will be called “That Thrifting Show.”
We have a trailer for the new 12-episode series that will debut on March 19 on Freeform, Hulu and Hulu On Disney+.
In this new show, two teams will have two days and $2000 (I’m noticing a theme) to put together a fabulous room from items they find at thrift stores, antique stores, sales, or even the trash.
The final designs will be judged by celebrities and industry professionals, including Robert Hartwell, Dani Klarić, and Preston Konrad.
I’m not going to lie, this is my kind of show. I’m a huge thrifter/antique shop hunter. Currently, I’m writing on a redone desk my husband got me. I know my way around refinishing furniture, sewing things, and turning garage sale/ Goodwill knick-knacks into awesome decor. This show will likely be something I watch.
Thrifting is on the rise
With food, home prices, and other expenses creeping up, thrifting has become very popular, especially on social media.
Some make entire channels showing people what to look for at thrift stores, how to find the best deals, and how to turn “trash” into “treasure”. Even eBay has been leaning into the trends by promoting buying and selling trendy clothing in its commercials.
According to Forbes, the industry is worth about $49 billion, which is up $21 billion since 2019. Estimates have it reaching $74 billion by 2029 as it becomes more mainstream. Sadly, this likely means the secret is out, and it will be harder to score the best deals.
I loved “Flea Market Flip,” which ended after 14 seasons in 2019.
Here’s hoping this show lasts formany seasons as well.
