RunDisney Princess Half Marathon Registration Debacle Ends With Disney Promising A New Registration Date

Today many people tried to register for the 2027 runDisney Princess Half Marathon, but ended up wasting their time. When the registration time of 10 AM rolled around, no one could sign-up and Disney had a message waiting for them that said,

“We know many of you are eager to register for the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, and we apologize for the delay. Unfortunately, registration will not take place today. We’ll share an update on runDisney social accounts by 8:00 p.m. ET this evening. We appreciate your patience.”

The Disney Princess Half Marathon is one of the most popular runDisney events and often sells out quickly.

Disney did put up an update before 8 PM saying.

“To our runDisney family, we know today didn’t go as planned, and we appreciate everyone who has been waiting with us. We are still working to finalize a new registration date and time for the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend. You may notice some changes on the website this evening, but registration has not started.
We want to reassure everyone that we will communicate the new date and time at least 24 hours before registration opens. We don’t have those details to share just yet, and registration won’t take place this week. We’ll share another update by 8:00 PM ET tomorrow evening on runDisney social accounts.
We appreciate your patience and continued excitement for race weekend.”

No explanation was offered, but Disney promised to open up the registration on a new date and will give potential participants at least 24 hours notice beforehand.

They also promised yet another update by 8 PM on June 3.

Those trying to register had some suggestions for future events.

Lots of comments were made on Disney’s delay post today, including some suggestions or possible causes for the issues.

“As an IT person, I’d suggest trying a staggered registration. Do only one event per day and you greatly reduce the traffic on your site.”- Christy Black Sanford

“Literally took a PTO day for this…” – Jelissa DW

“Did someone try unplugging it and plugging it back in?” – Dana Sheffield Rice

“This is partly due to people entering in the waiting room on multiple devices. Disney needs to limit this by making people login before entering the waiting room and only allowing one device per login.” – Matthew C. Sisson

Some are suggesting a lottery system or staggered registration days.  Both good ideas.

“I wonder and this is probably not popular but maybe staggering registration? 5 and 10k one day and half and Challenge next day?”- Marlys Hickson

“runDisney, can you have separate registration dates or times for the 5k, 10k, half marathon, etc? This would greatly reduce the volume of people trying to register at the same time for different events.” – Julie Dahlen

I can’t stress enough how popular this runDisney event is. If the site crashed over demand, I would believe it.

A new registration date will be announced soon.
