The making of the upcoming fourth installment of the Captain America series has been having one heck of a development dilemma. Originally called “New World Order” before being retitled to “Brave New World,” the film is set to feature Falcon (Anthony Mackie) taking over the role of Captain America from Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).
However, while initially set for May 2024, the film has seen multiple delays, to the point where their McDonald’s Happy Meal tie-in was released almost an entire year before its current February 2025 release date.
One of the main rumors regarding the delays is due to various reshoots after poor test screenings of the film. This led to them attempting to correct course. However, a new report suggests that Marvel’s attempts to salvage this project may have doomed it from profit-making.
According to Jordan Ruimy on World of Reel, an alleged insider has revealed the following information:
“Brave New World already had a budget of $275M before reshoots began. Now a contact, deeply indebted in the current Brave New World reshoots, is telling me that these reshoots are said to cost Disney/Marvel anywhere between $75-100M, they tell me, ‘It’s like they’re shooting a brand new movie.’“
The rumored budget of the film rivals what it costs to make the 2023 flop Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which coincidentally also featured actor Harrison Ford. However, with the report of them doing so many reshoots, there is the possibility that he or several other characters originally advertised may end up getting cut.
Both this and the Blade reboot show a severe issue within Marvel Studios to where they can’t figure out how to get these movies out the door. While Phase 4 was a major disappointment for the studio Phase 5 is shaping up to be a disaster.
What do you think? Will the budget end up exceeding $400 Million? Will the film ever be released? Let us know your thoughts.
