Disney World’s My Disney Experience app now lets you pick Orange Bird, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit or Launchpad McQuack as your profile icon, more than a year after Figment and the villains joined.
Your My Disney Experience profile picture just got a little more deep-cut.
WDW News Today reported on Monday, Oct. 5, that new character icons are available in the Disney World app. The three it highlighted are Orange Bird, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Launchpad McQuack.
WDWNT says there are more beyond those three. It just didn’t list them all.
How do you change your My Disney Experience icon?
Open the app and tap Profile. Under your name, choose Change Character, then pick your new icon.
Your character shows up across most Disney websites that use your MyDisney login, not just the park app.
Who is the Orange Bird?
He’s a Magic Kingdom original. Disney created the Orange Bird for the Florida Citrus Growers, who sponsored the Sunshine Tree Terrace in Adventureland when the park opened in 1971.
He doesn’t talk. He thinks in little puffs of orange smoke, which is a pretty good way to communicate on a hot Florida afternoon.
The Orange Bird faded away for years before Disney brought him back to Sunshine Tree Terrace in 2012. He’s had a cult following ever since, mostly in merchandise form. Sunshine Tree Terrace still sells the Citrus Swirl, if you want to pay your respects.
Who is Oswald the Lucky Rabbit?
Oswald came before Mickey.
Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks created him in 1927 for cartoons distributed by Universal. In 1928, Walt lost the rights to Oswald, and that loss is part of why Mickey Mouse exists at all.
Disney finally got Oswald back in 2006, in a trade with NBCUniversal that also sent sportscaster Al Michaels from ABC and ESPN to NBC. That’s 78 years away from home.
Since then, Oswald has starred in the Epic Mickey video games and has a shop named after him, Oswald’s, on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure.
Who is Launchpad McQuack?
He’s Scrooge McDuck’s pilot on DuckTales, starting in 1987, and later Darkwing Duck’s sidekick.
Terry McGovern voiced him in the original series, and Beck Bennett took over for the 2017 reboot.
Launchpad is famous for one thing: crashing. Every landing is an adventure, which makes him a slightly worrying icon for an app you use to plan a trip.
What other icons does My Disney Experience have?
The last big batch came in May 2025, when Disney added 17 icons at once. That group included:
-
villains like Cruella de Vil, Dr. Facilier, the Evil Queen, Gaston, Hades, Jafar, Lady Tremaine, Maleficent, the Queen of Hearts, Scar and Ursula
-
Figment, Hercules, Red Panda Meilin, Stitch, Tigger and Winnie the Pooh
The app also sorts its icons into groups like classic characters, princesses, Mickey and friends, Pixar and Star Wars.
If you switched to Figment last year, nobody’s making you change. But the Orange Bird is right there, and he’s very orange.
Why do the new My Disney Experience icons matter?
They don’t change anything about your trip. Your dining reservations and Lightning Lanes work the same no matter who your icon is.
But Disney fans have opinions about this stuff. An icon is one of the few places in the app where you get to show off a little.
And this batch leans hard into deep-cut fan favorites. Somebody at Disney clearly knows who’s opening that app.
