More Information Released on ‘The Magic of Disney Animation’ Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios–It Sounds Like A Fancy Meet and Greet.

Today we have a bit more information about the upcoming new ‘The Magic of Disney Animation’ coming to the old animation / Star Wars Launch Bay building at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new experience is set to “invite us all inside the world of Walt Disney Animation Studios and its beloved, playful creations.”

This new experience is based on the “Once Upon a Studio” short, where “animated characters come to life”.

I’m concerned that it will just be another character meet-and-greet location like Princess Fairytale Hall in the Magic Kingdom, because most of the information seems to be pointing in that direction.

A lot of it focuses on “Off the Page!” which features meet and greets in various areas inspired by animation departments.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, “Off the Page!” is “…a stunning area born of collaboration between Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering. Here, you can meet some of your favorite friends from beloved Disney stories across six unique departments from the animation studio.

The six areas include,

  • Story
  • Layout
  • Hand-Drawn Animation
  • Computer Animation
  • Lighting
  • Effects

Each location will offer character meet and greet areas like Mulan posing in front of a storyboard panel in the “Story” area.  This one makes sense because it was mostly made at the former animation studio.

Rapunzel will also be available in a multiplane camera setting at the “Layout” area. That one does sound a bit interesting.

Frankly, there better be more because this is simply a waste of a space dedicated to Disney Animation.  Posing with characters in front of a set inspired by computer animation? Seriously?

There is also a playground

When you aren’t simply having meet and greets with characters, there is also a playground inspired by Mary Blair’s original “Alice in Wonderland” concept art called “Drawn To Wonderland.”

It sounds cheap. A money-saving tactic to add capacity with inexpensive meet and greet sets and a playground while they reskin the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to the Muppets and build Monstropolis. The Rapunzel concept art is literally cheap cut “trees” in layers.

‘The Magic of Disney Animation’ will open “later in summer” of 2026 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
