Monstropolis adds archways as Monsters, Inc. track stacks up

Curved metal arches now frame the terrace at Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, and new aerials show Disney’s door coaster track going in on several levels at once, with six boom lifts and a crane working inside.

Monstropolis is growing arches, teeth and a whole lot of roller coaster track.

WDW News Today posted two new looks at the Monsters, Inc. land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Saturday, Nov. 7. Ground photos show curved metal archway frames along the terrace of Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza. New aerial photos show the door coaster’s white track going in on multiple levels inside its show building.

When we last checked in on Nov. 1, crews were installing track from the ride’s lowest points upward. Six days later, there’s track stacked over track.

Here’s DFB Guide’s latest look at Monsters, Inc. construction:

What’s new at Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza?

The former PizzeRizzo building now has a row of curved metal frames outlining arches under an overhang along its raised terrace. Smaller rectangular pieces tie the arches to the framework above, making a repeating pattern, WDWNT reported.

It’s far from finished. Wiring hangs loose next to some supports, construction materials sit behind the green railings, and tall concrete columns in front are still bare.

Behind the terrace, the restaurant’s tan walls already look old on purpose, with branching cracks and patches of exposed brick. Star-shaped accents sit above the overhang, and the windows facing in are still plain.

Archie, for the record, is the Fear Tech mascot pig from Monsters University. Now he’s getting a pizza place with a balcony.

What do the Monstropolis restrooms look like now?

Next door, the former Gonzo’s Royal Flush restroom building is now mostly out from behind its scaffolding.

  • Walls: Red brick with cream trim shaped like rows of teeth

  • Windows: Pointed accents around the arched openings, plus brown riveted details

  • Roof: A steep gable facing Grand Avenue with blue-green shingles, cream spikes along the edges and another row of tooth trim

  • Brick: Fresh pale mortar lines on the courtyard side

The faded yellow “TRY OUR CANS” sign we covered Oct. 31 is still on the brick, above the “Public Restrooms” lettering. So yes, the bathroom now has fangs.

How far along is the Monsters, Inc. door coaster?

A lot further than last week. WDWNT’s Nov. 7 report used new aerial photos from bioreconstruct, a longtime Disney construction watcher on X.

  • Track on several levels: A curved section winds between supports near the floor, with more track running overhead.

  • Block brakes: One raised block brake platform is waiting for its track, with another level of track already below it. Block brakes keep trains spaced apart.

  • Busy inside: One overview shows six boom lifts and a crane working in the building.

  • Track first: Crews are installing track while the building frame goes up, instead of waiting for the walls to close in.

  • Walls: Blue and white panels keep going up outside, but much of the upper steel is still exposed, with big openings in the walls.

  • On deck: More black supports and long pieces of white and black track wait in a staging yard with flatbed trucks.

One new column is temporarily held in place by wire ropes tied to heavy concrete blocks while crews build the framing around it.

Is Disney moving the backstage road at Hollywood Studios?

Partly. The park’s perimeter service road has been shifted to make room for construction and for Monstropolis’ future path toward the factory, WDWNT reported.

Bioreconstruct suggests the road may end up rerouted all the way around the new building. WDWNT said that final layout hasn’t been confirmed.

What else changed at Monstropolis this week?

More paperwork. Disney filed another permit for the Glob Theater, the old Muppet*Vision 3D theater, on Monday, Nov. 2, WDWNT reported.

It calls for “labor, material, and/or electrical for construction,” with Buena Vista Construction Company, Disney’s in-house builder, as contractor. WDWNT thinks the work is closer to maintenance than a big overhaul. It follows an electrical permit in July and a signage permit in September.

Saturday’s ground photos also show scaffolding wrapped around the Glob’s curved roofline, with crane booms rising behind the buildings.

When does Monstropolis open?

Parts of the land open in 2027, but Disney hasn’t announced a date. The coaster has no opening timeframe at all, which we flagged back in August.

The first wave includes Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley and Mike at the Glob Theater, featuring an original Randy Newman song, plus Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza and Harryhausen’s in the old Mama Melrose’s.

The door coaster will be Disney’s first suspended coaster and its first coaster with a vertical lift. The doors haven’t shown up yet. The teeth clearly have.
