Miss Piggy to Star in First-Ever Solo Movie Produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone

After nearly fifty years in the spotlight, Miss Piggy is finally getting her own moment to shine. The beloved diva, who first appeared on The Muppet Show in 1976, is set to headline her first-ever solo feature film, produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, with Cole Escola writing the script.

Lawrence revealed the news during an appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ “Las Culturistas” podcast, saying,

“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.

When asked if she and Stone would also appear in the film with Miss Piggy, Lawrence teased, “I think so — we have to.”

From Chorus Pig to Leading Lady

This marks Miss Piggy’s first leading role in a feature film since Jim Henson introduced her nearly 50 years ago. Initially a background character — a “chorus pig” — on The Muppet Show, Piggy’s charisma, confidence, and comedic timing quickly made her a global icon. By the late 1970s and early ’80s, she had become a pop culture powerhouse known for her ego, karate chops, and fashionable looks.

Miss Piggy is also known for her partner dynamic with Kermit the Frog, whom she lovingly calls “Kermie” or “the Frog” if she’s unhappy.

While plot details for the new project are still under wraps, the announcement has sparked excitement among fans who have wanted a Miss Piggy-led film.

This is just another big announcement for the Muppets.

A couple of months ago, Disney announced a “Muppet Show” revival for Disney+ in 2026, with Sabrina Carpenter guest-starring.

Earlier this year, a special show with magician Rob Lake was announced for the Broadhurst Theatre called “Rob Lake Magic With Special Guests The Muppets.” It is set to run from October 28 through January 18, 2026.
