Disney’s new Christmas special leaves Mickey and Pluto behind to guard their holiday dinner from a raccoon and a weasel. Disney+ has it on the November schedule for Friday, Nov. 27.
Mickey Mouse is getting the Kevin McCallister treatment this Christmas. Because, of course, Disney will do this using the Home Alone IP.
Mickey’s Home Alone, a new full-length animated holiday special, is coming to Disney+ on Friday, Nov. 27, according to the Disney+ November lineup that LaughingPlace published on Thursday, Oct. 15.
That’s the day after Thanksgiving, so it lands right as a lot of families start their holiday movie marathons.
It’s also headed to Disney Jr. and Disney Channel, WDW News Today reported when the special was announced in June. Those TV dates haven’t been shared yet.
Disney hasn’t put out a trailer. Here’s a look back at Disney+’s promo for its last trip to the Home Alone house, 2021’s Home Sweet Home Alone:
What is Mickey’s Home Alone about?
Mickey plans to spend a quiet Christmas at home. Then Minnie surprises him and the gang with tickets to a famous Ice Palace, according to Disney’s announcement.
In the rush to leave, Mickey and Pluto get left behind.
So the two of them have to defend the house from a raccoon and a weasel who want their Christmas dinner. Meanwhile, Minnie and the rest of the crew try to get back home in time to celebrate.
It’s the same basic setup as the 1990 movie. Just swap the two burglars for a couple of hungry critters, and swap the paint cans for whatever Pluto can find.
Who made Mickey’s Home Alone?
Wild Canary produced it in association with Disney Jr., according to Disney+.
Tom Rogers is the executive producer and Rachel Ruderman is co-executive producer. Shane Prigmore directs.
Disney hasn’t announced the voice cast. Mickey, Minnie and the gang are usually voiced by Disney’s longtime regulars, but the June announcement didn’t list anyone.
What songs are in Mickey’s Home Alone?
Two original songs, according to Disney+. They’re called “Ho-Ho-Home for Christmas” and “Favorite Christmas Feeling,” both written by Keith Harrison Dworkin.
There’s also a new arrangement of “Jingle Bells,” plus an original score by Tony Morales.
Is Mickey’s Home Alone connected to the Home Alone movies?
Disney hasn’t said so beyond the name. The special borrows the title and the left-behind-at-Christmas story, but Disney’s announcement doesn’t mention Kevin or the original films.
Disney does own Home Alone now. The 1990 movie, starring Macaulay Culkin, came from 20th Century Fox, which Disney bought in 2019 along with most of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment business.
Disney’s last Home Alone project was Home Sweet Home Alone, a Disney+ movie that came out in November 2021. It didn’t go over well with fans, so a version starring Mickey and Pluto feels like a safer bet.
What other specials are on Disney+ in November?
A few land in the same stretch, according to LaughingPlace’s list of the Disney+ November schedule:
-
Nov. 14: A Proud Family Wizmas, a stop-motion holiday special
-
Nov. 16: Bluey: Fancy Restaurant
-
Nov. 26: a Sofia the First: Royal Magic holiday special episode
-
Nov. 27: Mickey’s Home Alone
-
Nov. 28: Dasher, a full-length CG holiday special
That’s a lot of holiday programming packed into Thanksgiving week. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 also has new episodes on Nov. 27, if the grown-ups need something after the kids go to bed.
What other Mickey Christmas specials are there?
Plenty. Mickey has been doing holiday specials for more than 40 years, going back to Mickey’s Christmas Carol in 1983.
There’s also Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas from 1999 and its sequel, Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, from 2004. More recently, Disney made the stop-motion Mickey Saves Christmas in 2022 and Mickey and the Very Many Christmases in 2024.
Several of those are on Disney+ already, so Mickey’s Home Alone will have company.
How do you watch Mickey’s Home Alone?
Stream it on Disney+ starting Nov. 27. You’ll need a Disney+ subscription, either on its own or as part of a bundle.
If you don’t stream, keep an eye on Disney Jr. and Disney Channel listings closer to the holidays. Disney hasn’t announced when the special will air on TV.
Either way, it looks like Pluto finally gets to be the hero of a Christmas story. Somebody has to guard the Christmas dinner.
