We knew that sequels were rumored, but now Netflix has confirmed that a sequel to the animated musical action film KPop Demon Hunters is officially in development, expanding the story of the supernatural K-pop group at the center of the streaming hit.
The follow-up will again be produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, with the original filmmakers Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans returning to direct. The two creators have also signed an exclusive, multi-year agreement with Netflix to write and direct additional animated projects for the platform.
A Sequel to One of Netflix’s Biggest Hits
The announcement follows the amazing success of the original film, which premiered on Netflix in June 2025. The animated feature blended high-energy KPop-inspired music with action and fantasy storytelling as it follows the fictional K-pop girl group HUNTR/X. Members Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—who secretly battle supernatural forces while maintaining their global pop-star careers.
The movie quickly became one of Netflix’s most widely viewed releases. It has been reported as the most-watched movie on the platform, drawing hundreds of millions of views and reaching Netflix’s Top 10 charts around the world.
Creators Plan to Expand the Story
The sequel will continue exploring the world introduced in the first film. According to the filmmakers, the next installment will dive deeper into the characters and mythology of the story’s supernatural universe.
Maggie Kang offered this comment,
“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”
Chris Appelhans added,
“These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”
While we don’t have an estimated release date, we do have confirmation that it is moving forward. Hopefully, much of the cast will return as well.
