Hummingbird Cake at Art Smith’s Homecomin’

When at Disney, calories don’t count, right? You drive through the roadway sign telling you at you’re at Walt Disney World, and your need to check or count calories disappears. Is this true if you’re local and just visiting Disney Springs for the evening? We can live in that no calorie count dream world and just enjoy the food that Disney Springs has to offer.

I did just that at the end of my meal at Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming by indulging in the Hummingbird Pie. This Southern staple pie was recommended by many former visitors to the restaurant. My friend and I decided to order it at the end of our meal.

This $13 cake slice is certainly shareable between several people. It comes with a side of vanilla bean ice cream and a seasonal fruit gastrique – ours was blueberry. The menu describes it as “Chef Art’s famous pineapple-banana cake with cream cheese frosting, a seasonal fruit gastrique and scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.”

When diving into this thick cake slice, the sweetness of the frosting is offset by the pineapple and banana flavors of the cake. The cake isn’t too sweet against the sweetness of the frosting. In different bites, you can taste pineapple or banana. It honestly one of the best cakes I’ve ever tasted. It was delightful. I would 100% recommend it for your next trip to Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ at Disney Springs.

There are several other dessert options including doughnuts, an adults only Shine Cake that includes moonshine syrup, and a Chocolate Pecan Pie. I am sure that all of these desserts live up to the hype and same caliber of excellence that the Hummingbird Cake did.  Am I missing out not trying any of these other desserts? I am sure that I am, but let me know in the comments.
