Disney Genie launching at Disneyland Dec 8, 2021

Genie+ at Walt Disney World Always Changes (Or Does it?)

The Genie+ system at Walt Disney World would not qualify as a total success. Sure, more revenue entered the Disney coffers. Still, a large amount of confusion still exists around this service. The mistakes that guests make regarding this system continue even through this summer. Since Genie+ celebrates its first birthday this Fall, guests hoped things would be simpler by now. However, the list of attractions scheduled to be Genie+ attractions was scheduled to change after August 7th.

Up until very recently, Walt Disney World’s site indicated that former individual paid access only lightning lane attractions would be returning to that status. This would have meant each park would have two (or more possibly) individual paid lightning lane attractions. That would mean fewer Genie+ attractions in each park. Starting August 8th, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Space Mountain, and Expedition Everest were scheduled to be paid access only again. That means the expected change will not be happening. In other words, things remain the same for once.

Yet, good news for Genie+ users after that day rises. According to Walt Disney World website, those attractions will remain Genie+ attractions. This leaves Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Rise of the Resistance, Flight of Passage, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train as only individual lightning lane attractions. Thus, each theme park offers only one individual paid lightning lane attraction.

So, what does all this mean? Well, at least for now, Genie+ strategies can remain the same. Walt Disney World has not stated if this arrangement will be permanent at this time. In other words, this could be changed at any time. The infamous words that attractions are subject to change reigns very true here.

With only one individual paid lightning lane attraction per theme park, non-resort guests will continue to have very limited ability to acquire one of those. With resort guests getting the ability to by individual paid lightning lanes at 7am in contrast to non-resort guest being limited to official park opening time, the slots will disappear quickly.

Yet, on the positive side, all other attractions will be slightly easier to acquire like they have been since this change happened earlier this year. If you have mastered Genie+ skills, this news will make your trip easier. You should find it slightly easier to after August 7th to get attractions you desire.

Despite the frustration that Walt Disney World confirmed this so close to the expected date change, this looks like good news for guests. As always, we will strive to update you on changes like this so you can have a more enjoyable vacation. Thanks for reading. I hope this helped some.
