We knew that Disney planned on laying off over 1,000 people today, and it seems that Marvel got hit hard. According to reports, Marvel has lost about 8% of its people between Marvel Studios and Marvel Comics.
Layoffs hit on both coasts, in Burbank and New York City, with most departments inside the Brand seeing cuts, including film, TV, comics, legal, finance, visual development, and more.
Visual development was hit very hard, with most of the team laid off, except for a few to arrange hiring freelance artists or outsourcing production.
Honestly, I’m surprised comics weren’t cut completely and outsourced, given the poor performance and hits to distribution channels.
It is unclear yet how many were laid off today and from which internal brands and departments.
