Disney Has Extended The Furlough For Some Walt Disney World Employees

It looks like it’s a Dismal Disney news day.  A couple of days ago I posted an article about the Disney Executives getting their full salaries as of yesterday, after it had been temporarily cut due to the closure of parks and COVID-19. I mentioned in that article that many Cast Members were still furloughed and haven’t been brought back, but the executives were getting their full pay reinstated.

Now, I think Disney is making this choice because they don’t want more of their executives leaving to go to other companies, but, “in these unprecedented times” maybe they should re-examine that idea. They use that excuse enough on quarterly earning calls.

Today, Twitter was abuzz as it came out that the furloughed Cast Members are now being told that their “up to six month furlough” from March/April may last longer.

Walt Disney World is not performing or rebounding like Universal Orlando has. Unlike Universal Orlando, Disney doesn’t have a parent communications company to keep the money coming in while “in person” activities like going to parks and movies are down. After the money loss they reported for Q3 and all the money they took out to “cover” expenses, maybe they should keep the pays frozen while the attendance and movies are down.

Disneyland is still shut down!

Hoping they can get these Cast Members back to work soon! Maybe the Executive pay cuts should have lasted as long as the furloughs.
