That’s about 75 cents a cupcake, and each one gets a huge swirl of cookie-filled frosting. Here’s what to know before you head to the bakery.
The Costco bakery just dropped another one.
Costco is now selling Cookies and Cream Cupcakes for $8.99 a pack, Costco fan account @costcobuys shared on Instagram on Oct. 19. Each package comes with 12 cupcakes.
Do the math and that’s about 75 cents per cupcake, which is hard to beat for a party tray.
What do Costco’s Cookies and Cream Cupcakes look like?
Like they belong in a fancy bakery window. Each cupcake gets a big swirl of cookie-filled frosting, topped with cookie crumbles. Underneath, the cake itself is studded with cookie pieces, too, Sporked reported.
The account behind the post said they were obsessed with how much frosting Costco piled on, and that’s clearly the selling point here.
If you’re a cookies and cream ice cream person, this is basically that in cupcake form.
Has Costco sold cookie cupcakes before?
Yes, and they were wild. Back in 2020, Costco sold cupcakes with an entire cookie stuck on top, Sporked recalled.
These new ones are a lot more low-key by comparison. The cookie is mixed into the frosting and sprinkled on top instead of planted on the cupcake like a flag.
Are Costco’s Cookies and Cream Cupcakes at every store?
That’s not clear yet. Costco bakery items sometimes roll out to every warehouse and sometimes stay regional, so your local store may or may not have them yet.
Your best bet is to check the bakery case on your next trip or call ahead. Costco doesn’t usually sell bakery items like these on its website, so you’ll have to shop in person.
You’ll also need a Costco membership to buy them. A Gold Star membership is $65 a year.
What else is new at the Costco bakery this fall?
Costco’s bakery has been on a hot streak. Recent fall drops include:
-
Blueberry Caramelized Cheesecake Croissants
-
Lemon Cream Caramelized Croissants, which run $12.99 for six
-
Pumpkin Streusel Muffins, which Sporked rated 7.5 out of 10
Costco is also selling an Apple Pie Sundae at some locations, part of a wave of apple pie treats hitting stores this fall.
How long do Costco cupcakes stay fresh?
Frosted bakery cupcakes are best within a couple of days. Keep them covered in the original container, and put them in the fridge if your kitchen runs warm, since buttercream gets soft fast.
If you need them for a party, buy them a day ahead, not a week ahead. Twelve is a lot of cupcakes, so this is a good one for classroom parties, office birthdays and Halloween get-togethers.
Why does Costco keep dropping new bakery items?
Because people show up for them. Costco’s bakery is one of the most talked-about parts of the store, and new items like these get passed around social media fast.
Fan accounts like @costcobuys have turned spotting new products into a hobby, so a new cupcake can go viral before most shoppers even see it in person. If these turn out to be a hit, they could get hard to find at some stores.
Does Costco sell Disney deals, too?
It does, and PNP readers keep an eye on them. Costco has a Disneyland deal that includes Lightning Lane for $329.99, and Costco’s new Disney holiday village set goes gingerbread this year for $129.99.
Costco also sells discounted Disney gift cards from time to time, which is one of the easiest ways to save a little on a park trip.
And with Thanksgiving about five weeks away, the bakery is about to get a lot busier. If you’re planning to grab these cupcakes for a fall party, earlier is better.
