Regal, AMC, Cinemark and Marcus are all selling a black cauldron bucket for Disney’s new witch movie. Alamo Drafthouse is keeping the lights on for a craft-along screening.
Disney’s Hexed is brewing up some movie theater merch.
Five big theater chains revealed their plans for Hexed on Tuesday, Oct. 20, Laughing Place reported. The headliner is a black cauldron-shaped popcorn bucket with the movie’s logo on the front, and it’s coming to Regal, AMC, Cinemark and Marcus Theatres.
Hexed, the new animated movie from Walt Disney Animation Studios, opens in theaters Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving.
What does the Hexed popcorn bucket look like?
It’s a round black cauldron with a glowing green Hexed logo on the front and little feet on the bottom. Fill it with popcorn and it looks like it’s bubbling over.
Regal and Marcus Theatres are also selling a second character popcorn bucket decorated with characters from the movie.
What is Regal selling for Hexed?
Regal has the biggest lineup. Besides both popcorn buckets, it has two collectible cups:
-
A Hexed logo cup that comes with your choice of one of three character drink toppers
-
A premium glitter cup with the Hexed logo on a purple, starry background filled with gold star glitter
Popcorn comes with either bucket, and a drink comes with either cup. Regal’s Hexed collection goes on sale Nov. 24, one day before the movie opens.
What are AMC, Cinemark and Marcus offering?
Each chain is adding its own twist:
-
AMC Theatres is selling the cauldron popcorn bucket.
-
Cinemark is selling the cauldron bucket with an extra-large popcorn and a free same-day refill. If you see Hexed in RealD 3D on Sunday, Nov. 29, you can also get an exclusive character charm that clips onto your 3D glasses, while supplies last.
-
Marcus Theatres has both the cauldron and character buckets. On opening day, Nov. 25, a special screening ticket comes with a collectible pin.
What is the Hexed Alamo Crafthouse screening?
Alamo Drafthouse is skipping the bucket and going hands-on instead. Its Alamo Crafthouse event is a live-hosted screening where guests do a witchy craft while they watch.
Everyone gets three-eyed sunglasses and a potion bottle craft to take home. The lights stay on during the movie so you can craft along, and an ad-free preshow plays witch-themed clips before the film starts.
When does Hexed come out?
Hexed opens in theaters on Wednesday, Nov. 25, and tickets are on sale now.
Disney has been rolling out news for the movie all month. Hailee Steinfeld recorded a cover of The Cars’ “Magic” for the film, the story was reworked into a mother-daughter witch tale, and the movie opens with a hand-drawn 2D prologue, a rare move for Disney these days. The El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood is also planning a big fan event for the release.
Why are movie popcorn buckets such a big deal?
Collectible popcorn buckets have turned into their own fandom over the last few years. Fans line up on opening day for the weirdest and most detailed designs, and some sell out fast and show up on resale sites for a lot more than they cost at the theater.
A cauldron is a pretty perfect shape for a witch movie. It’s also one of the more practical designs out there, since it’s basically a big bowl you can reuse as a candy dish or Halloween decoration next year.
Will the Hexed popcorn buckets sell out?
Possibly. The chains say merch availability and event dates vary by theater, and some items are only available while supplies last.
If you have your heart set on a cauldron, it’s smart to check your local theater’s app the week of Thanksgiving. Regal’s collection goes on sale a day early, so that’s your best shot at getting one before opening day.
