“Zootopia 2” is huge in China. The box office in China has already hit over $297 million (much higher than the $170 million domestically). Now China has taken moviegoing to a new level with a series of “pet-friendly” and “pet-only” screenings for Zootopia 2, inviting dogs, and in some cases other household pets, to join their owners inside select theaters across the country.
This quirky cinema experience quickly captured global attention. Social media is full of photos and videos showing pets in seats, exploring aisles, or simply relaxing beside their humans as they watched Disney’s long-awaited sequel.
A Nationwide Rollout of Pet-Focused Shows
Beginning in late November, theaters in major cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, Nanjing, Xi’an, Chongqing, Qingdao, Suzhou, and Lanzhou introduced screening sessions designed specifically for pet owners and their animals.
Human guests without pets, those with allergies, noise sensitivities, or safety concerns, could attend other showings of the film.
Some cinemas in China are surprising everyone by allowing people to bring their pets to watch Zootopia 2. The movie has become such a hit that several theaters have turned into full pet-friendly spaces. 🐶🍿
Pure joy everywhere.

The concept was simple: create a safe, comfortable environment where people and pets could enjoy a film together. But organizers went further than expected, tailoring each venue’s setup to local pet-owner needs and preferences.
According to reporting from China Minutes, every seat in these pet-only screenings came equipped with essential items:
- Diaper pads
- Cleaning wipes
- Sanitary coverings
Owners were expected to clean their areas after the movie, helping to maintain the theater’s condition while still allowing animals the freedom to relax or move around.
Some cities went further for the event
- In Beijing, theaters introduced specialized “calm dog zones” for shy or easily startled pups who might struggle with crowded or noisy settings.
- In Shenzhen, cinemas created LED-lit photo stations so pet parents could capture keepsake moments before or after the film. Free small gifts were also distributed to participants.
- Chengdu offered same-breed screenings — grouping similar dogs together to minimize conflicts and provide a comfortable, familiar social environment.
- Lanzhou, Wanda Cinema partnered with local pet adoption groups to host events alongside the pet-only screenings, blending entertainment with community outreach.
My only concern is that it could be stressful for the pets with all the other animals and strangers around them. My dogs would flip out.
You can tell in this video that some of the dogs aren’t so happy.
