Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia 2” has added another milestone to its historic box office performance, officially becoming the highest-grossing domestic film of 2025. Globally, “Ne Zha 2” still has the top spot by well over $400 million. Amazingly, two animated films hold the top spots for 2025!
On Tuesday, the “Zootopia” sequel surpassed “A Minecraft Movie”, which previously led the year with $423.9 million in North American ticket sales. “Zootopia 2” edged ahead with $424.2 million domestically, placing it at No. 1 on the 2025 domestic box office chart.
The film had already secured its position as the top-grossing Hollywood release of the year worldwide. Now, its domestic performance further cements what has become one of the most remarkable animated runs in modern box office history.
A Record-Breaking Opening
When “Zootopia 2” debuted over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday corridor, it launched with a whopping $559.5 million globally, making it the largest animated opening in history.
Then the sequel became the fastest animated or PG-rated film ever to reach the $1 billion mark worldwide, hitting the mark in only 17 days.
Through Tuesday, the film’s global total stood at approximately $1.85 billion, making it the highest-grossing animated studio film of all time, unadjusted for inflation.
“Zootopia 2” Stayed on Top
“Zootopia 2” remained in the domestic top 10 for 13 consecutive weeks, even with video-on-demand becoming available.
Internationally, the film delivered strong results, particularly in China. The sequel earned more than $650 million in that market alone, becoming the highest-grossing Western film ever released there. They even offered special screenings of the film where fans could bring their pets.
Beyond China, the film broke records across multiple territories. “Zootopia 2” has outgrossed the original “Zootopia’s” total global haul of $1.025 billion when it was released in 2016.
Currently, “Zootopia 2” ranks No. 8 on the list of the highest-grossing Hollywood films of all time, unadjusted for inflation.
