Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Walt Disney World To Reopen on May 3

We finally have a reopening date for the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.  It will finally reopen on May 3, 2026, after being closed for over a year!  Disney also dropped the height requirement to 38″ so smaller family members can enjoy the attraction too.

What did Disney Update and Change

Disney installed new tracks and refreshed the train cars.

The caverns are now the Rainbow Caverns.  The area has been improved to include phosphorescent pools, illuminated stalagmites, and stalactites.

I think the rumbling that was added to Disneyland will now be in this one as well.

Here’s A Bit More From Disney’s Ambassadors and Imagineering

The Story of Big Thunder Mountain

Disney’s back story for the attraction dates back to the American Gold Rush.

“Barnabas T. Bullion struck gold in the Big Thunder region, he saw a future full of riches and hustled to start the Big Thunder Mountain Company.

However, them shiny dreams rarely come without a cost, and Bullion quickly found himself in a battle with the forces of nature and in a whole heap of trouble. One day, strange and unexplainable things started happening. Machines failed. Cave-ins shut mines down.

No matter how deep the miners dug into the heart of the mountain, the forces of Big Thunder fought back. And when the attraction reopens next year, the unsuspectin’ passengers who board the runaway trains will learn just how wild the wilderness can get.”

What do you think? Are you excited to see the updated version of the “wildest ride in the wilderness”?
