Beetlejuice 2 (AKA Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) is due to premiere Stateside on September 6, but those attending this Summer’s Venice Film Festival will get to see it early!
We learned, via Variety, that the world premiere of Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to his iconic 1988 horror comedy will take place on August 28. Although Beetlejuice Beetlejuice won’t be competing against other movies at the festival, I hope it blows everything else out of the water.
Burton expressed his delight at having the premiere of his film at the La Biennale Di Venezia-hosted event, saying, “I’m very excited by this. It means a lot to me to have the world premiere of this film at the Venice Film Festival.”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will reunite Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. Newcomers to the franchise include Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux. However, not all of the original cast will return.
Aside from Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, another lead is also absent. It’s no surprise that Jeffrey Jones will not be returning, but it has been leaked that the death of his character (Charles Deetz) will be shown via a stop-motion sequence.
Beetlejuice is one of my favorite Burton features (Batman being #1). While the filmmaker hasn’t been at his best for years, I hope that retreading through the Afterlife with several talented actors rekindled his creativity. We’ll only have to wait two more months to see.
“After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.“
You can spot Beetlejuice roaming around Universal Studios Orlando if you’re lucky. Although the pesky ghost doesn’t have his own house at this year’s HHN, I bet he will in 2025!
