The teachers of an underfunded Philadelphia public school are back, and this season brings new students into their classrooms, according to Disney+. More kids, more problems, same tiny budget.
ABC hasn’t said much more than that yet. That’s normal for a sitcom. The jokes are the plot.

The name is. Brunson named the school after Joyce Abbott, her sixth-grade teacher in Philadelphia.
Brunson’s mother also taught in Philadelphia schools. That might explain how well the show nails the little details: the broken supplies, the forms, the teachers buying stuff with their own money.
When did Abbott Elementary start?
The show premiered on ABC in December 2021. It’s shot mockumentary style, like The Office, with the teachers talking to the camera crew that’s supposedly filming them.
Heading into season 6, it’s still pulling serious awards attention.
Why does the Abbott Elementary promo look like Schoolhouse Rock?
Because it’s ABC’s own throwback. One of the season 6 promos is called “Abbott House Rock,” and it’s styled after Schoolhouse Rock!, the animated music videos that taught a generation of kids grammar and multiplication on ABC on Saturday mornings starting in 1973.
Since ABC is owned by Disney, that’s Disney borrowing from Disney. It’s a pretty good fit for a show set in a school.

How many Emmys has Abbott Elementary been nominated for?
The show picked up seven Emmy nominations in 2026, including outstanding comedy series, according to Disney+.
Seven nominations, five seasons in, is a strong haul for any comedy.
It’s already won a few. Brunson won for writing the pilot, and Ralph won for supporting actress, both in 2022. Brunson later won lead actress in a comedy.
Where can you watch Abbott Elementary?
Live on ABC on Wednesday nights, then on Hulu the next day. If you watch live TV through Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV, both carry ABC, so you can catch it as it airs. Older seasons stream on Hulu too, so there’s time to catch up before Oct. 7 if you’ve fallen behind.
Twenty-two episodes means the show should be on most Wednesdays well into 2027. Mr. Johnson will have plenty of time to say something completely unhinged.
