‘Zootopia 2’ Is Worth the Trip to Theaters — Spoiler Free Review

“Zootopia 2” came out today, ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. I went with my family to see the film and right from the start the theater was packed and it was a Tuesday at 4:30. People want to see this film.

How was the film?

It was good!

We were worried that “Zootopia 2” could end up in up a “Wreck It Ralph 2” situation where the character dynamics shift and the characters feel very different from the first film. Thankfully this was not the case.

“Zootopia 2” feels like it could have been made right after the first film. In fact this one starts with the very end of the last film as a recap of sorts. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are partners and their mistakes break open a brand new case.

In fact my daughter commented that this film felt the most “Disney” comparted to other recent Disney films she’s seen. It definitely feels like Disney from ten years ago.

The story is also more fast paced that the original film, and I never heard any of the kids in the theater fussing at all. They were glued to the film.

A lot of new characters, but it isn’t overcrowded.

New characters in this film like Gary De’Snake (Ke Huy Quan), Nibbles Maplestick (Fortune Feimster), and Mayor Brian Winddancer (Patrick Warburton) are welcome additions to the franchise.

We also meet other police duos from the precinct including Captain Hoggbottom and partner Officer Truffler . A set of hippo partners (Bloats and Higgins), zebra partners (the Zebros), etc.

Without spoiling anything that wasn’t spoiled in the trailer, Judy and Nick find themselves running from the police and helping Gary De’Snake try to return his family to Zootopia. Like the first film, there is a conspiracy that must be solved.

Personally, I liked it a bit better than the first film but my daughter disagrees. That being said she still liked this one too.

If you are debating about going to theater for this one. Just go. It’s worth it!

Score 8.5-9 /10
