The Perfect Lie, a new psychological thriller starring Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin, premieres Friday, Oct. 30, at 9:50 PM Korea time on MBC, Soompi reported. Korean outlets Star News and Ilgan Sports confirmed the date.

What is The Perfect Lie about?

It’s about a man and a woman who remember the same event in completely opposite ways. As they each try to prove what really happened, the truth gets messier, Korean outlets reported.

Korean media are calling it a “high-density psychological thriller.” The Korean title is simply 라이어, or “Liar.”

Who is in the cast of The Perfect Lie?

The main cast, according to Soompi and Korean reports:

• Yoo Yeon-seok as Min Joon-ho, a heart surgeon and single dad

• Seo Hyun-jin as Kang Ji-seon, an elementary school librarian

• Ok Ja-yeon as Lee Hwa-young, a detective who works on juvenile crimes

• Lim Sung-jae as Park Seok-gu, a Navy special forces officer and Hwa-young’s husband

• Kim Ji-hyun as Kang Ji-eun, an anesthesiologist and Ji-seon’s sister

• Lee Cheon-hee as Kim Hyung-soo, Ji-eun’s husband

The show is directed by Jo Young-min and written by Baek Jae-young.

What happened at The Perfect Lie script reading?

Yoo switches between a warm dad with his son and a cool, focused surgeon at work, Top Star News reported. Seo’s character goes through a big emotional shift after a perfect date takes a turn.

Ilgan Sports said the cast put in so much energy you could believe it was the real shoot.

Have Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin worked together before?

Yes. They were both in SBS’s hit medical drama Dr. Romantic, which started in 2016. That makes The Perfect Lie a reunion about 10 years in the making, which Korean media have been playing up.

This time, instead of working side by side in a hospital, their characters are on opposite sides of a story.

What else has Yoo Yeon-seok been in?

Yoo is best known for Hospital Playlist, the tvN drama about five doctor friends, and for MBC’s When the Phone Rings, which became a big global hit on Netflix in late 2024 and early 2025.

His When the Phone Rings co-star, Chae Soo-bin, has her own new show coming soon. Her Netflix rom-com Take Charge of My Heart premieres Oct. 9.

What has Seo Hyun-jin been in?

Seo is known for tvN’s Another Miss Oh and Dr. Romantic. Most recently, she starred in JTBC’s Love Me, which aired from December 2025 into January 2026.

Love Me also starred TWICE’s Dahyun, who just landed a new romance movie. And Love Me is one of the free shows on Rakuten Viki’s K-Drama Day, Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, so it’s an easy way to catch up on Seo before the premiere.

Where can I watch The Perfect Lie?

It airs Fridays and Saturdays on MBC in Korea. In the U.S., the first episode airs Friday, Oct. 30, at 8:50 AM Eastern on Hulu.

International streaming hasn’t been announced yet. MyDramaList lists 12 episodes, but MBC hasn’t confirmed that.

With two big leads and a twisty premise, this is shaping up to be one of the fall’s buzzier thrillers.
