Would Universal Orlando Replace Their Marvel Section With DC?

Ever since it opened in 1999 the Universal Studios theme park Islands of Adventure (as part of their Orlando Resort) they have had access to the world of Marvel Comics and their large cast of characters to make “Marvel Super Hero Island”. But ever since Disney bought Marvel outright many have wondered if Universal would eventually abandon the characters.

However, Universal currently seems to have no interest in letting their contract expire as, per the original agreement, Universal can use the characters indefinitely as long as they keep paying royalties. And many low how much Universal likes taking attention away from Disney. Universal also made a similar deal with 20th Century Fox to use the Simpsons (which Disney also currently owns).

The land featured multiple attractions and meet & greets with various Marvel characters who, unlike the Disney park versions, are all comic book accurate as the MCU existed long after they made the deal with Marvel. But a recent report suggests that insiders believe Universal will buy a different superhero universe.

The massive amount of uncertainty at Warner Bros. Discovery due to multiple box office flops in 2023 (specifically with their DC films) some at the studio believe that either DC or the entirety of WB-D will be sold off to a rival studio, Universal being the most obvious suspect. If this does happen, Universal may have access to the library of DC Comics.

Interestingly enough, Universal did consider making the land themed after DC with negotiations taking place, but the deal fell through when Time Warner acquired a large stake in the Six Flags chain of theme parks. So, Marvel was used instead. But with DC possibly becoming part of Universal’s catalogue they have two options. 1. Replace the Marvel-themed section with DC. 2. Keep Marvel and add DC to Epic Universe and have access to both.

Universal’s owner Comcast has been eyeing other studios for some time. First, they tried to bid for 20th Century Fox when Disney tried to acquire it, and they were also rumored to be interested in buying Paramount (Then known as ViacomCBS) for a time. And now they may seek to buy Warner. That is if the FCC will allow such a merger.

But what do you think? Would Universal be willing to give up stealing Disney’s audience or would they be willing to swap out Spider-Man for Batman? Let us know your thoughts.
