There’s a giant green rabbit in Star Wars, and he’s been around since before “The Empire Strikes Back.”

His name is Jaxxon, and he’s the newest character in the mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. The fan-run stats site SWGOH.GG lists him as first seen Tuesday, Sept. 22, with limited-time packs going on sale this week.

If you’ve never heard of him, you’re not alone. Jaxxon spent most of the last 50 years as a deep-cut joke among comic fans. Lately, though, he’s been having a moment.

Who is Jaxxon in Star Wars?

Jaxxon is a Lepi, a species of tall, green, rabbit-like beings, and he’s a smuggler with his own ship, the Rabbit’s Foot. His full name is Jaxxon T. Tumperakki, and his catchphrase is “Holy Hutch!”

He first appeared in Marvel’s Star Wars No. 8, with a cover date of November 1977, just months after the first movie came out. Writer Roy Thomas and artist Howard Chaykin created him, and StarWars.com says the inspiration was Bugs Bunny.

In the comic, Jaxxon teams up with Han Solo and Chewbacca in a story that’s basically “The Magnificent Seven” in space. He appeared in only about five issues.

Did George Lucas hate Jaxxon?

That’s the legend. ComicBook.com reported that Lucas “hated the character” and had him written out of the comics because he felt too goofy, even for Star Wars.

There’s no direct Lucas quote on the record, so treat that one as long-running fan lore more than documented fact. Either way, Jaxxon disappeared from the comics for decades.

Where has Jaxxon appeared recently?

He’s been making a slow comeback:

• Star Wars Adventures Annual 2018, in a story called “The Lost Eggs of Livorno”

• “From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back” (2020), in a short story

• “LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past” on Disney+, released Sept. 19, 2025, where Ben Schwartz voiced him in his first screen appearance

That’s the same Ben Schwartz who voices Sonic the Hedgehog in the movies. So a speedy blue hedgehog and a kick-happy green rabbit share a voice.

How do you get Jaxxon in Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes?

At first, you’ll have to pay. SWGOH.GG says Jaxxon arrives through limited-time store packs:

• Crystal packs from 1,299 to 12,990 crystals

• Bundles priced from $29.99 to $99.99

• An Era Bonus Bundle for Episode Pass+ holders

If you’d rather not spend money, he’s set to become farmable in December 2026, according to SWGOH.GG, with faster ways to unlock him planned for summer 2027.

He’s part of the game’s Era of Myths & Legends, a run of characters from old-school Star Wars stories that EA announced about a month ago.

What does Jaxxon do in Galaxy of Heroes?

He’s a Light Side attacker tagged as a Mercenary, Scoundrel and Smuggler. His abilities have fun names:

• “Blaster’s Up, Doc” (a Bugs Bunny nod if there ever was one)

• “Hop ‘Til You Drop”

• “Fluffle Shuffle”

• “Starship Down”

EA’s preview says his kit centers on a “Prepared” status effect and works well alongside Lando Calrissian.

Will Jaxxon ever be in a Star Wars movie or live-action show?

Nothing’s been announced. But Lucasfilm has clearly warmed up to him. He’s gone from written out to animated on Disney+ to playable in one of Star Wars’ longest-running games.

For a character his own creator reportedly didn’t want around, that’s a pretty good run. Some rabbits just don’t stay in the hat.
