Sorry, true believers. The film belongs to Sony, which means Netflix gets it first, likely between late November and February. Disney+ has to wait until 2028.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is not coming to Disney+ anytime soon.
The film goes to Netflix first, and Disney+ is looking at a wait of roughly two years.
Why Spider-Man is not going to Disney+ first
The answer is a licensing arrangement.
Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige produce the Spider-Man films. Disney owns Marvel. But Sony Pictures holds the character’s film rights and distributes the movies, which makes “Brand New Day” a Sony release rather than a Disney one.
Sony does not operate its own streaming service. It licenses its films out instead.
Its Pay-1 deal sends theatrical releases to Netflix first. Sony boss Tom Rothman confirmed the arrangement to The New York Times.
A separate Pay-2 agreement with Disney brings those films to Disney+ later, typically 18 to 24 months after theatrical release.
When Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits Netflix
No date has been announced. The projections cluster in a narrow range.
One estimate points to Nov. 28, 2026, based on Sony’s average theatrical-to-Netflix window of roughly 120 days.
Another puts it closer to Feb. 26, 2027, about seven months after release, drawing on how long “No Way Home” took.
ScreenRant favors the later window given the film’s box office performance, reasoning Sony has every incentive to keep it in theaters. The Direct notes Sony titles typically land on streaming five to eight months out.
The film opened July 31. That was 35 days ago.
When it reaches Disney+
Later than most people expect, and the estimates vary.
Working from Sony’s roughly 18-month Pay-2 window, one projection puts the Disney+ arrival around late August 2028. Another suggests late May 2028 if the Netflix debut lands earlier.
Either way, 2028.
The precedent is “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which streamed on Netflix first and did not reach Disney+ until May 1, 2025.
Two earlier Holland films, “Far From Home” and “No Way Home,” are already on Disney+, having completed the same cycle.
Where you can watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day right now
Theaters, and that is the complete list.
The film is available for presale on Prime Video, though no digital release date has been announced. Blu-ray and 4K UHD preorders are live.
UK viewers may see a different path. Sony holds a separate distribution deal with Sky and NOW, where all three previous Holland films are available.
One caution. Several outlets have noted that low-quality aggregator sites are currently advertising full access to the film. Those are not legitimate, and the movie is not streaming anywhere.
How Spider-Man: Brand New Day is performing
The box office is the reason Sony is in no hurry.
The film has passed $2 billion worldwide, becoming Sony’s highest-grossing release ever and the eighth film in history to reach that mark.
It claimed the biggest domestic opening weekend on record, beating “Avengers: Endgame,” and has been closing in on that film’s second-place all-time domestic total.
Tom Holland and Zendaya star, with Sadie Sink appearing as Jean Grey in the introduction that set up Marvel’s X-Men film, now dated for May 2028.
What is actually coming to Disney+ soon
If the goal is Marvel on streaming this fall, there is plenty.
“VisionQuest” premieres Oct. 14, closing the “WandaVision” trilogy with Paul Bettany and James Spader as Ultron.
“Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” arrived on Disney+ on Sept. 2. “Toy Story 5” follows in late September.
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” returns Nov. 20, and “Ahsoka” Season 2 arrives Jan. 20.
“Avengers: Doomsday” opens in theaters Dec. 18, and as a Marvel Studios production, it will follow the standard Disney+ path rather than Sony’s.
The short version for anyone planning: Netflix around the turn of the year, Disney+ in 2028, theaters until then.
