What Is It With Fire and Fantasmic? Mickey’s Sparks Go Off Early In Another Pyro Malfunction.

Fantasmic at Disneyland can’t seem to catch a break. The attraction was closed for over a year after the disastrous Maleficent Dragon fire that destroyed Murphy the Dragon (the popular nickname for the Maliefecent Dragon) completely.

Here is Murphy after the fire was out. In a photo by X user jaysquivel we can see that the dragon was destroyed.

The popular show finally reopened, and Mickey Mouse had just experienced a mishap involving the spark effect during the show.

Usually, Mickey is on stage, and when he raises his arms, the sparks are released. However, something happened during a show, and the pyrotechnic sparkler effect went off early while Mickey was climbing the stairs to his position.

When the character actor realizes what is happening, they put their arms out to point the sparks away from themself.

They dash to their position, but the sparklers end just as they arrive at their spot on stage.

The actor continues the show and goes through the motions of when the effect should be used without breaking character or routine.

The incident can be seen in a TikTok video by @bibbidibobbidibalyson.

Hopefully, no one was hurt. I assume the actor has extra protection as the effect is part of the show.

So far, no changes have been announced for the show after the incident. This particular malfunction has happened in other shows before. It’s not unheard of.

Poor Disneyland Fantasmic. It just can’t win when it comes to fire. I hope this doesn’t mean we will never get the dragon back. The show isn’t the same without it.
