Warwick Davis Unhappy With Disney For Pulling Willow Series From Disney+

The 2022 Disney+ series Willow was one of the lowest rated series on the entire platform. While it was definitely interesting to see Lucasfilm revisit the rather obscure fantasy IP many fans of the original film were not pleased with how the overall sequel series turned out.

The series shared many similarities to the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy where the main character of the previous story is now a grumpy old hermit and is no longer the focus.

The poor reception to the series was so bad that Disney pulled the show from their Disney+ platform only six months after its premiere, effectively killing any chances for a second season (despite the showrunner’s insistence that there would be one).

Now, five months after the show’s removal, the actor who played the series’ titular character, Warwick Davis, has decided to call out Disney via social media for outright removing the show from the service. He said:

I meet lovely people on a daily basis who are fans of #Willow, who are the reason the @DisneyPlus Series was made. Please tell me @WaltDisneyCo, what do I say to these subscribers when they ask why they can’t watch the series any more? #embarrassing

While the series does have its own small audience, it is only a fraction of what was already a small following for what is considered to be an obscure 1980s fantasy film. Disney saw that they would be able to make more money via a tax write-off rather than keep the series on the platform.

But it does show some of the negative effects of content being locked to streaming. When it’s gone, it’s gone. The only way to watch something like that once it’s gone would be through illegal means.

So what do you think? Is Davis right? Should the fans of the series still be able to watch a show that they enjoy? Or is it better left forgotten?
