During the Walt Disney Studios Showcase at Destination D23, Disney unveiled its latest animated feature, Hexed, which is set to premiere in theaters on November 25, 2026. The announcement, made by Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush, introduced fans to a whimsical new world filled with family magic and heartfelt storytelling.
Interestingly, it is a male-led film that seems like Disney is trying to make their own “Harry Potter.” This comes after Disney reportedly is trying to find new male-centric franchises.
Story & Creative Team Behind Hexed
Hexed follows the journey of an awkward teenage boy and his Type-A mother, who discover that his peculiar quirks are actually hidden magical powers. This revelation transports them into a dazzling realm where magic is not only real, but celebrated.
The film is directed by Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand, with Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones serving as producers.

A Fresh Fantasy from Disney Animation
Early reactions to the trailer and logo—characterized by vibrant, whimsical visuals—drew comparisons to softhearted favorites like Encanto and Onward, celebrated for blending emotional depth with imaginative storytelling. Fans have lauded Hexed as a rich, emotional fantasy that explores identity, belonging, and family bonds through a colorful, magical lens.
While Disney hasn’t confirmed all details yet—including voices, full plot, or original songs—Hexed promises to expand the studio’s legacy of character-driven animation and imaginative worlds.
