Previously there were rumors out there about Disney’s Hollywood Studios “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” shutting down. No social distancing markers were added and then the billboard was taken down.
Disney had said that they were just being replaced and that appears to be the case as WDWNT is reporting that The Little Mermaid banner and the other Star Wars banners that were removed, have been replaced today.

Honestly, I am wondering if the plan was to replace the attraction, but financial constraints made them push it back. The rumors about it being closed and replaced were swirling back before the pandemic shut-downs. It’s cheaper to just refresh and reopen it until they get some of their larger and necessary projects completed.
One thing I’ve learned. There is usually a kernel of truth to most rumors but plans are in constant flux and change all the time. So this rumor I believe was true, at the time, but money talks and right now it’s saying “Dang it Mickey! I can only stretch so far!”
