New aerial photos show crews tearing rockwork off Mythos’ waterfront and grading the dirt where Poseidon’s Fury used to stand. Universal still hasn’t said what’s coming next.
The Lost Continent keeps getting smaller. New aerial photos of Universal Islands of Adventure show demolition moving along the waterfront at Mythos Restaurant, while the old Poseidon’s Fury site is now a big patch of graded dirt.
The photos come from bioreconstruct, who tracks Orlando construction from above, and were rounded up by WDW News Today.
Mythos is still serving guests for now. But the restaurant is set to close for good in 2027, and Universal hasn’t announced a final day.
Here’s a recent video look at the Mythos demolition from Theme Park Stop:
What’s happening at Mythos Restaurant?
Crews have stripped part of Mythos’ famous pink rock facade near its waterfront bridge, exposing the concrete underneath. One photo shows a structural column that used to be hidden inside the fake rockwork.
Black tarps cover the half-dismantled pieces by the bridge. An excavator sits in the rubble, and a floating barrier runs along the shoreline.
Crews are also lining up long steel sections for a retaining wall on the narrow strip between the restaurant and the lagoon. The other side of the waterfront is still open to guests.
What happened to Poseidon’s Fury?
It’s gone. Across the walkway from Mythos, the former Poseidon’s Fury site is now open earth, with bulldozers, excavators and rollers spreading and packing sand.
The attraction’s plaza and its Treasures of Poseidon gift shop have been demolished, too. A new service road is going in to reach a temporary first aid station and backstage areas.
Can you still walk through the Lost Continent to Hogsmeade?
Yes, for now. Guests still pass through what’s left of the land on the way to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Hogsmeade.
A few buildings are still standing near where The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad stunt show used to be. If those come down, guests might have to reach Hogsmeade only from the other side, by the bridge near Hogwarts. That’s a guess based on the layout. Universal hasn’t announced any routing change.
What is replacing the Lost Continent?
Universal hasn’t said. That’s the big mystery. There’s plenty of fan speculation, but no official word on what Universal plans to build in the space.
What is Mythos Restaurant?
Mythos is the sit-down restaurant at Islands of Adventure, and it’s one of the most photographed buildings in the park. It’s built to look like a giant carved rock formation, with a cave-like dining room and big windows over the park’s lagoon.
For years, theme park fans have called it one of the best restaurants inside any Orlando park, which is why its 2027 closing stings. Universal hasn’t said what, if anything, will take its place.
What was the Lost Continent?
It was one of the original lands at Islands of Adventure when the park opened in 1999, and it used to be twice its current size. In 2010, part of it became The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Its coasters got new looks for Harry Potter. Dueling Dragons became Dragon Challenge, and Flying Unicorn became Flight of the Hippogriff. Dragon Challenge closed for good in 2017 and was replaced by Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
Poseidon’s Fury, a walk-through special effects show set in a buried temple, was the land’s last big attraction. Mythos is the last thing still open, and it’s on borrowed time.
If you’ve never eaten there, go soon. Once 2027 rolls around, that pink rock landmark will be another Universal memory.
