The rematch over two decades in the making is coming soon! Sure, it was spoiled months ago, but now we finally have an official clip of Logan facing off against Sabretooth in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The more comic book-accurate Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) will go toe-to-toe with Tyler Mane’s version of Sabretooth from the first X-Men live-action film. Sadly, leaked photos from the set already spoiled the outcome, but let’s hope the battle is just as vicious as what we’ve seen in the older issues of the Wolverine books.
Sabretooth’s original on-screen appearance debuted in 2000’s X-Men, which was a little disappointing. While Mane did capture the look and ferocity of the comic book version of Victor Creed, he never had a proper showdown with Wolverine. Heck, the years of history the two shared in print were never even hinted at in the Fox trilogy.
The bond between the two mutants was finally fleshed out in the mess of a film known as X-Men Origins Wolverine. Still, by 2009, Liev Schreiber had taken over the role of Sabertooth and could be considered a different character.
Ultimately, we know this cameo is a way to give us the showdown we never had. I wish Mane got a proper crack at playing a better-developed Victor Creed on film.
Mane is 6′-8″ tall, so the former wrestler has the look. By 2000, several stories were published outlining Logan’s history with Creed and their yearly birthday battle. Why he wasn’t brought back for the other two X-Men films will be a mystery.
The ultimate disservice was having Cyclops blast Sabretooth off of the Statue of Liberty during the climax of the 2000 movie. At least Logan got to be the one to save the day in the end.
What do you think of Tyler Mane’s upcoming cameo? Let us know!
