Toy Story 5 Will Reportedly Focus on Jessie The Cowgirl

Disney is doing yet another “Toy Story” film, because sequels is their next play now that live-action remakes are not performing. Now we know that “Toy Story 5” will reportedly focus heavily on Jessie, according to Buzz Lightyear voice actor Tim Allen.

Allen talked to WIVB and let it slip that the fifth film is about Jessie, saying,

“I can tell you that it’s a lot about Jessie,” Allen said about the fifth “Toy Story” movie. “Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign. And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyears. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.

Buzz and Woody will be there but the film’s focus is going to be Jessie and the toys fighting digital devices?

“Toy Story 5″ will focus on the toys facing the challenge of staying relevant in a world increasingly dominated by technology and digital devices. The toys, including Woody and Buzz, will grapple with the changing needs of children and the need to adapt to a new generation of play.”

I guess it makes sense since Jessie has abandonment issues.

Do we really need another “Toy Story” film, though?

I would argue that “Toy Story” is also trying to stay relevant in a technological world, which is ironic given that the original was once “cutting edge” technology and cgi animation.

Toy Story 4 did over a billion at the global box office in 2019, but is the market still there six years and “Lightyear” later?

The “guaranteed hit films” of pre-2020 don’t seem to be as much of a sure thing post-COVID. Disney and Pixar have stumbled and struggled a bit, but “Inside Out 2” and “Moana 2” did okay, so maybe “Toy Story 5” has a chance.

“Toy Story 5” will release to theaters on June, 19, 2026.
