Top Three Things You Should Be Eating at Universal Orlando This Week (October 15, 2023)

Universal Orlando has been facing fall break-level crowds over the last few days. The queues for food were as you would expect. Of course, Halloween Horror Nights food queues are always longer than one would expect. This week’s Top Three Things involves some Halloween Horror Nights food and some year-round options as well to avoid some of the queues.

Top Three Things: Mango BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich Platter- $12.99

We do not venture over to Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando Resort very often. Still, this high-quality water park offers Orlando area visitors some of the best experiences at a water park in the area. In addition, the dining options at Volcano Bay Water Park exceed the quality of dining at other area water parks.

One example of this involves the Mango BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich Platter. Guests find this item at Kohola Reef Restaurant & Social Club at Volcano Bay. The menu description for these reads, “Topped with caramelized pineapple, fresh cabbage and mango slaw on a toasted Hawaiian style bun with fries.” Though this will not match a table service level sandwich, this brings decent value and reasonable flavor, especially for dining at a water park.

Our friends over at the TODAY Café in Universal Studios Florida continue to create synergy with their media properties and this quick service place. The latest example arrived in the form of a new savory item. Al’s Butternut Squash Tart sounds like it would be a vegan item. However, it is not.

Al’s Butternut Squash Tart contains many non-vegan items. This Al Roker-inspired tart contains roasted butternut squash, applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onion, gruyere cheese, crème fraiche, and an arugula salad inside a buttery flaky dough with fresh fruit.

Halloween Horror Nights: Fried ’til the End Chicken – $9.99

Halloween Horror Nights continues at Universal Orlando Resort through November 4, 2023. We have written a significant amount about the better food options during the event. One Halloween Horror Nights food item that should be mentioned is the Fried ‘til the End Chicken at the Chucky-themed Halloween Horror Nights food and beverage booth.

The item involves fried popcorn chicken tossed in Nashville hot sauce, drizzled with ranch, topped with scallions and chili threads. Every time we ate this, we enjoyed it. Though it may not make the list of best items, it is not far from it.

Thanks for reading this week’s Top Three Things list. We will be back again next Sunday with three more suggestions. As always, eat like you mean it!
