Those Mad About Kimmel’s Removal Over Free Speech Have Forgotten About Gina Carano

Oh how the turn tables. People are furious about Jimmy Kimmel Live being removed from Disney-owned ABC. Many are complaining about violations of “freedom of speech” saying that Kimmel was unfairly removed for his opinions and statements.

A lot of the same people cheered when Gina Carano was fired from “Star Wars” for her comments. Leading up to her dismissal, people campaigned for her removal, calling her a “transphobe” because she politely refused to put pronouns in her bio. When she rightfully pointed out that the political polarization in America could cause people to turn on each other similar to what happened in Nazi Germany, she was fired.

Now Jimmy Kimmel has also been removed for comments, and some of those who cheered Carano’s firing are screaming about Kimmel’s situation.

If the idea of “freedom of speech, but not freedom of consequence” is used as a defense for cancellation, then it needs to be evenly enforced.
I think people need to step back and examine their own prejudices and actions to be sure they are being fair and not just politically biased. It’s really hard.

The division and polarization has reached a critical point, and when do we put aside hypocrisy and stand up for what we claim we believe?

Rules for thee but not for me isn’t working. I think anyone who has faced cancellation would likely agree.
