There Is No “Deepfake” Luke Skywalker Series Being Planned for Disney Plus

Rumors of a deepfake Luke Skywalker series planned for Disney+ have spread across social media, but are they real?

No.

They stem from a satirical post with no basis in official Lucasfilm announcements. The claim twisted the situation using the Lucasfilm leadership change at the studio and making up fake news about future Star Wars projects.

Fans really want to see a real return of the Jedi, but as of now, nothing has been announced.

What Happened?

A parody X account called @Discussing Fish seemingly started the rumor by claiming it came from a Reuters article when it didn’t.

They claimed that with Dave Filoni taking over as co-CEO of Lucasfilm, he wanted to push for deepfake Luke Skywalker in films and shows.

Currently, his announced plans include the upcoming film “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, set for release in May 2026, and “Star Wars: Starfighter” starring Ryan Gosling in 2027. Daisy Ridley will return as Rey in another project. Yet nothing in official statements mentions deepfake Luke or a dedicated series.

It’s also worth noting that Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill confirmed his retirement from the role in 2025 interviews. While the deepfake tech was used in The Mandalorian, no Luke Skywalker series is in known development.

Recasting remains an option, as seen with Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Alden Ehrenreich played a young Han Solo in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” (2018), proving it’s possible. Frankly, it didn’t do that well.

Fans have long suggested Sebastian Stan for Luke, given his resemblance to a young Hamill, though no official talks have surfaced.

But at this time, it appears to be a satirical post by an account parodying Discussing Film on social media.
