The World Of Star Trek Teams Up With DreamWorks’ Galaxy Quest

The popular science fiction franchise Star Trek has entertained audiences for generations. Beginning in 1966, the show broke boundaries and showed us a better future for humanity, and the many worlds of outer space that we could potentially encounter beyond the stars. The franchise has had multiple shows, movies, books, comics and video games with a hardcore dedicated fanbase.

One of the series’ most recent video games is Star Trek: Fleet Command, a strategic free to play space simulator developed for mobile phones that released in 2018. Over the years the game has had multiple promotions with different iterations of the show. But now the developers have decided to go beyond and crossover with the world of Galaxy Quest.

For those unaware, Galaxy Quest was a 1999 sci-fi comedy from DreamWorks that, in essence, is a spoof of classic Star Trek shows and movies.

The film focuses on actors who played characters in a fictional television show being recruited by extra terrestrials who believe them to really be the characters from the show. Through the journey they overcome their petty grievances and regain their confidence and help save an entire alien race. While nothing has been confirmed there have apparently been talks of a possible sequel or spin-off.

The teaser for the game stows Captain Kirk (who does not resemble William Shatner) on the deck of the Enterprise but with Commander Peter Quincy Taggart (who resembles Tim Allen) in the captain’s chair. There is also Lieutenant Tawny Madison (who resembles Sigourney Weaver) and Dr. Lazarus (who resembles Alan Rickman) poorly piloting the ship.

The Star Trek series is no stranger to crossovers, especially in comic books. They have met Doctor Who, crossed paths with the X-Men, ventured to the Planet of the Apes and even teamed up with the Green Lantern. But this is the first time they have crossed over with a similar I.P., especially a spoof. This would be like Star Wars crossing over with Spaceballs.

While most likely one of the strangest crossovers Star Trek has had it might not be the last. Only time will tell if they cross paths with the likes of shows like Babylon 5.

What do you think of this out of this world crossover?
