The Ron DeSantis Reedy Creek Takeover May Get Repealed!

The feud between Florida Govenor Ron DeSantis, the Walt Disney Company, Reedy Creek, and other politicians has yet to stop. It has been less than a year since DeSantis shook things up by taking Disney’s self-governing control away, but it has been one heck of a ride.

Now, Florida State Senator Linda Stewart is taking the next step to undermine the governor’s attempts to neuter the Mouse. Thanks to the Orlando Sentinel, we learned that she will be filing a bill that could repeal the installment of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.

The repeal bill will go in front of Orange County on November 29th. Considering Florida Republicans are starting to split their support between DeSantis and former President Trump, some politicians could back Sen. Stewart to make waves.

It’s unclear if Stewart’s bill will attempt to make any changes other than reversing control of the massive plot of land back to Disney. If that’s the case, it could be a hard sell to those who backed DeSantis’s original plan.

Reedy Creek had its issues, and is the best course of action to return to that?

The board Ron DeSantis replaced the Reedy Creek Improvement District with isn’t exactly staffed with impartial members. However, there have been some improvements. These include the first responders’ pay issues being looked at and the unearthing of some suspicious practices regarding which contractors were getting hired to work on Disney projects.

On the other hand, what DeSantis has done could be considered government overreach, even if you agree that Disney shouldn’t be self-governing. Rather than taking a rational and diplomatic approach, the 2024 Presidential candidate chose to go to war with Bob Iger’s company.

Can the fallout be balanced by the positive changes in the Reedy Creek area? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
