I really have to give it to Disney for this move as it’s a brilliant marketing move on their part. They let Kermit the Frog compete on Fox’s “The Masked Singer.”

Previously we’ve seen politicians, actors, singers, and even gamer Ninja appear and I’m sure it’s for PR reasons, but Kermit was genius. Disney has already been facing backlash about their content warnings and issues with the Disney+ “The Muppet Show” release. People haven’t been really talking about the Muppets a lot otherwise and this changed that for sure.
Credit where credit is due. Give the team behind that one a raise!
The crowd and the internet went wild. It even made me cheer.
I know why they did it, but it feels more like Disney. Like back in the 80’s and 90’s when all their sitcom characters visited Disney parks. Cashing in on the nostalgia. Smart. Well played.
Here’s his performance and judges’ guesses:
Here’s the reveal:
I cherish moments like this where I can forget about all the issues and just smile for a moment.
Kermit gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly and that’s where we got more of the Disney+ push.
EW asked:
“Recently, The Muppet Show was added to Disney+. What has the response been to that and how do you feel about it being re-introduced to a whole new generation of fans?“
“It’s wonderful. We had so much fun making The Muppet Show and had so many great guest stars join us — Elton John, Julie Andrews, Steve Martin, John Cleese — just to name a few. I’m thrilled that a whole new generation of tadpoles…and humans… can now watch the show anytime they want. In fact, the only ones not thrilled about the show being on Disney+ are those two old guys in the balcony, Statler & Waldorf. Some things never change.”
So yes. It’s a marketing stunt, but a fantastically fun one.
Make sure you check out Kermit’s EW “interview” it’s a lot of fun.
