The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2 Is Now In The Works For Netflix

Fresh off the heels of the record-breaking “KPop Demon Hunters” sensation, Sony and Netflix are teaming up once again for another IP – “The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2”.

According to Variety, Sony is making a sequel to the 2021 film “The Mitchells vs. the Machines” with Guillermo Martiinez and JP Sans directing.

Reports indicate that the Molyneux sisters, Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, will be writing the screenplay for the film.

Netflix will be carrying the film. Production is set to start in early 2026.

The original film was nominated for an Oscar and won over 40 awards. It’s currently sitting on RottenTomatoes at 97% Critical Score and 89% Audience Score.

Here is the synopsis for the original film,

“Young Katie Mitchell embarks on a road trip with her proud parents, younger brother and beloved dog to start her first year at film school. But their plans to bond as a family soon get interrupted when the world’s electronic devices come to life to stage an uprising. With help from two friendly robots, the Mitchells must now come together to save one another — and the planet — from the new technological revolution.”

Will Sony and Netflix have another big hit on their hands? Time will tell.
