The Jonathan Majors Assault Case Headed to Trial After Dismissal Motion Fails

In March 2023, MCU actor Jonathan Majors (Kang the Conqueror) was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, in New York. Since then, Majors’ case has seen some twists and also resulted in him being dropped by his talent agency. The actor’s legal team even tried to have the case dismissed, but a lower Manhattan Judge swatted that attempt.

According to Variety, the Majors’ defense team doesn’t believe the actor can get a fair trial. His attorney, Seth Zuckerman, had also filed a motion to have specific evidence held from the public in the domestic abuse case. He claimed to Judge Michael Gaffey that the “sensitive information” could jeopardize Majors’ fair trial.

A ruling on having the mystery evidence sealed has not been made yet. However, with most of the legal roadblocks cleared, a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney said, “We look forward to presenting our case at trial.” Majors will have his day in court starting on November 29, 2023.

Jonathan Majors is facing four misdemeanor charges. The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania actor has pleaded not guilty to all four counts.

It was revealed in the article that Majors’ legal team had allegedly tried to misrepresent evidence and “attempted to have police create a wanted poster with Jabbari’s photo.

Why the defense lawyers would do this isn’t clear, considering a member of that legal team, Priya Chaudhry, says they have evidence proving Jonathan Majors is innocent. Part of the evidence is a CCTV video that shows Jabbari without injuries following the alleged assault. The prosecution, however, denies that is what the surveillance video shows.

Not long after the initial assault allegation, Priya Chaudhry retracted her initial account of the events to IndieWire of all places. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
