The Eternal Flame Gideon’s Bakehouse Cookie

Literally from the time of opening in early 2021 at Disney Springs, Gideon’s Bakehouse drew a crowd. On official opening day, they created a nine-hour virtual line simply to get their baked goods. Though this place sells excellent cakes and other bakery items, the cookies are the star. On a recent trip to Disney Springs, I “rope-dropped” the Disney shopping mecca to be one of first in line for cookies. You may see that as odd. I view it as a hard morning of work. I received for my hard morning of work several cookie options at the Disney Springs location. As a result, you should expect more reviews of the cookies in future weeks.

Based on time restrictions, I want to describe the February cookie of the month. As some of the logos and mottos of Gideon’s Bakehouse reflect, they have a mild dark streak. The “True Love Never Dies” cookie reflects that. Their own marketing describes the cookie this way: “The Valentine’s month Cookie is here, and it is pure Passion! Our Velvety Five Flavor Chocolate Cookie is laced with our special house-made Ancho, Cayenne, and Cinnamon Spice Mix, infused with a magical essence of cherry, and topped with Chocolate Covered Cherries. It’s a deep chocolate flavor followed by the tingling warmth of a first kiss and the sweet presence of cherries. The one you’ve been waiting for your entire life is here, and it loves you without condition, eternally.

I found this cookie to be one of the lowest in taste quality of the seven I tried. I did not enjoy the combination of cherry, ancho, cayenne, and cinnamon. As always, however, the chocolate flavor rocks. The chocolate chips exceed reasonable expectations here also.

In fairness, my brief notes about this cookie emphasize the kick from the cayenne. Despite that the cookie possesses solid overall flavor. Now, this flavor might disagree with my palate, but consistent flavor existed. I had these cookies basically for breakfast so this one will wake you up!

I also passed along these cookies to several other taste testers. They enjoyed this cookie. Yes, the “kick” snuck up on them. However, the consistent quality of this limited time cookie meets their refined cookie needs.

I feel obligated to point out that a Gideon’s Bakehouse location exists in the east end area of Orlando. The wait to enter that place to give $6 per cookie never reaches the excessive wait at Disney Springs location. If you find yourself enjoying a Disney Springs day, try to get some Gideons’ cookies. If this does not sound appealing to you, maybe one of the next six I will review shall inspire you.
