The Confisco Grill BLTA Review

Did you know that USA Today likes to make top ten lists? Well at least their online version really likes to do it. They have editors for a section of their site known as “10Best.” USA Today asked a panel of experts to select the 20 best theme park restaurants. After that, they had readers vote to select the top 10. I would not define this list as scientifically sound. Also, Arthur Levine likes to point out he is not part of any group of editors that defined this list. Also, I suspect the readers did not visit Confisco Grille often since the service can be very slow there.

Yet in the USA Today article, they declared Confisco Grille the #1 restaurant in theme parks. They published that this theme park restaurant located near the front area of Islands of Adventure was the best. I would like to declare a recount. Still, Confisco Grille offers some quality food. One good example can be seen in the BLTA sandwich.

For $18.95, guests may buy The Confisco BLTA. The menu description tells guests to expect braised pork belly, lettuce, crispy fried green tomatoes, avocado, and chipotle mayonnaise on toasted rosemary focaccia. The menu tells you that you get fries as a side. However, you may also get a side salad instead.

So, is this sandwich worth your time? I would say yes. I recommend this sandwich often to people going to visit Confisco Grille. The price point ranks a bit high so that is a slight negative. However, the flavor and quality merits your consideration. This sandwich, despite the pork belly, provides a light lunch. The fried tomatoes come well prepared. The focaccia bread offers great flavor. Also, the bread is very soft especially for this style of bread. The bread portion looks large but does not overwhelm the rest of sandwich.

On a slightly more negative side, this sandwich could use a bit more chipotle mayonnaise in my opinion. Yet, the chipotle flavor matches well with the rest of the components. Also, the avocado provides good flavor. However, the avocado is pressed into the sandwich. Some guests express issues with the texture of it as a result. In contrast, guests describe the pork belly with good texture and taste. However, pork belly here shows inconsistency in terms of thickness. Several compared it to being more like thin bacon than true pork belly. Yet, I have never heard a guest claim the flavor of the pork belly was disappointing.

Next time you visit Islands of Adventure, Confisco Grill will be waiting. If you are looking for a solid sandwich with some non-traditional theme park flavor, the BLTA meets that need. As always, eat like you mean it!
