The Anaheim Ducks Bring Back “Mighty” Logo For 2024-25 Season

From time to time, a professional sports team will bring back an old name or logo for a special event or for a limited time. Sports franchises tend to evolve over time with their look, but they always like to do a throwback for the older fans. Now, the NHL (National Hockey League) team, the Anaheim Ducks, is doing just that, and in a mighty big way.

The Anaheim Ducks have revealed that for the 2024-25 NHL season, they are going to bring back the original Anaheim Mighty Ducks logo, the iconic duck-shaped hockey mask with two sticks giving it a crossbones look.

For those unaware, the Anaheim Ducks were founded in 1993 and were originally owned by The Walt Disney Company. The name and logo were based on the 1992 film The Mighty Ducks. The original team name was The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, or simply The Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

Disney used the NHL team to advertise not only the original film but also its sequels in 1994 and 1996, as well as a TMNT-inspired animated series that lasted from 1996 to 1997 as part of the Disney Afternoon program block.

Disney owned the team until 2005 when they sold it to Henry Samueli. In 2006 the franchise was renamed to just Anaheim Ducks as Disney still owned the Mighty Ducks franchise. Since then, many fans have missed the old iconic logo. They are a passionate fanbase. But after nearly 20 years of being gone, the ducks are mighty once more.

While not confirmed, they most likely made a licensing deal with Disney for this to happen. It isn’t known if this change will just be for this season or if it will be the logo going forward.
